How we empower relationships

Two women looking at a mobile phone and smiling. Text reads: "Nurturing...meaningful relationships and connections!"

For people with a learning disability, forming and maintaining relationships can be challenging but that doesn’t mean they don’t desire meaningful connections and loving relationships! Often, they experience cultural stereotypes and prejudices that can be hurtful and damaging, affecting their self-esteem, and preventing them from forming valuable connections.

While people with learning disabilities may find it more difficult to connect with others, our specialist teams are on hand to support them. They are expertly trained to understand individual needs and are equipped to provide bespoke, person-centred support. This is focused on boosting self-esteem, building confidence, and empowering those with learning disabilities to establish and nurture healthy connections with others!

We do this by:

  • Completing individual assessments
  • Respecting your privacy
  • Promoting your dignity
  • Providing you with relationship education
  • Empowering you to make decisions

Relationships with family, friends and romantic partners can have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. Promoting these relationships for people with learning disabilities is important to us and we make this a priority as part of people’s support plans.
